Swedish Tree Climbing Competition 2019

This competition is an ISA approved event and therefore qualifying for the European and world Championships. The basic idea of the competition is that the arborist community meet, share experiences and work to improve safety in the industry.

The Swedish Tree Association has a policy that, among other things, defines the differenct competition classes. This policy can be found at the bottom of the page and here (In Swedish).

Cost

The cost for members of the Swedish chapter (Svenska trädföreningen) and / or an ISA membership is 1000 SEK and for non-members it is 1200 SEK. Once you have registered, you will receive an invoice to be paid within 30 days but no later than May 6. After 30 days, the invoice is sent to debt collection. If you choose to jump off until the April 25th you will only be charged 250 SEK for administrative fees. After April 25, only SEK 500 will be refunded for cases of illness or the like. Lunch and coffee are included for the competition day (s) you participate in. Dinner is also included in the price.

Where and when?

This year's host municipality is beautiful Halmstad.

The competition will be held May 17th-19th. Registration and gearcheck for the contestants is Friday, May 17th.

Volunteers and judges are registered when they arrive, seek out the competition management.

How does the competition work?

During Saturday, everyone competes in five different events that reflect the arborist's working day. The contestants are divided into groups that hold together throughout the day. The groups will be mixed with experienced and less experienced climbers. All points are scored and at the end of the day, they qualify with the highest score for Sunday's final, Masters' challenge. This is a much more challenging event, with more time at the climbers disposal. The challenge is scored by three or five judges and at the end of the day we have our Swedish champions in women and men's class.

Who can compete?

You should be familiar with tree climbing as well as able to use the required safety equipment. You should also have good knowledge of trees so you can get around safely, without damaging the trees or exposing yourself or others to danger. If you are not known to us before, documentation on relevant education may be required or credentials from a reliable source.

If you feel unsure if you want to compete, we can warmly recommend that you sign up as a volunteer. Then you get to be where the action is and in the same time you can make valueable contacts in the industry. Read further down below on volunteers. The competition is divided in a women’s class and a men’s class.

Maximum number of participants: 50 pcs.
We leave 10 positions to foreign climbers. More foreign climbers will be accepted as far as space allows

Equipment
The climbing equipment you want to use will be controlled before you start the competition. It is therefore important that you check it yourself before you bring it to the gear check. If you are unsure if your equipment is up to standard and is compatible in the configuration you intend to use it, you should first seek information from the manufacturer. If you still hesitate after you been in contact with the producer, you can email the competition management. We will respond if time permits. Equipment that does not meet the requirements will be quarantined during the competition and can be retrieved afterwards. Before you come to the gear check, make sure your equipment form is filled in. Should it not be, you end up last in the line

Your equipment should also be well cleaned and in good order. The Ropewrench will only be approved if it has a CE-mark, in accordance with ISA’s recommendation

Volunteers and judges

NOTE! Registration for volunteers and judges takes place via the same form as participants, see above.

As a volunteer, you are where the action is. In order to conduct the event, we need a large number of volunteers. We are happy that Hvilan utbildning once again line up with their students from the arborist classes. Of course, we need more volunteers and preferably with experience. We need help mainly during Saturday. We also need help during Wednesday to Friday with rigging the various events and trial-climb the trees to see if the setup works.
As a volunteer you will be offered lunch and refreshments during the days you help. You are of course also invited to Saturday's party where dinner is included.

We need nine judges during Saturday and five judges during Sunday. We are looking for people with experience from previous competitions. We would prefer that you have either been a judge, competitor or been involved as a volunteer for a few years. As a judge you will be offered lunch and coffee during the days you help out. You will also be invited to Saturday's party where you will be treated to dinner.
